That’s sooooooo 2006, CBC

Here is a screenshot of today’s hockey section on the CBC Sports Web site. Looks fairly normal, right? Let’s zoom in for a closer look.

What the . . . ? Is that Todd Bertuzzi on the right? Calgary Flames Todd Bertuzzi? With Richard Zednik? Florida Panthers Richard Zednik? He of the goal of the year? How can this be?

Oh yeah – Bertuzzi had a cup of coffee with the Panthers almost three years ago. So when the lazy-ass Web editor who doesn’t know sports searched the photo archives for a picture of Richard Zednik to post with this feature, this is what they came up with. Quite a find, really, considering Bertuzzi only played seven games in Florida.

And this is our nation’s premier coverage of the most popular sport in Canada. Jeez, CBC. Are the budget cuts that bad? I mean, that’s quite a gaffe. It’s not like when a player gets traded and you go with the NHLPA photo of him in his old team’s jersey. This was years ago. This reminds me of the time I spent half an hour on the phone with the Canadian Press sports desk, arguing with them that the Canucks had not traded Felix Potvin for Dan Cloutier, which they had reported as background in another story.

Speaking of which, I have an impressive Web editing resume available for your perusal, CBC. Just sayin’.
