At least Willie Mitchell scored

I guess there’s always a positive.

I’m one of those sports fans who is deluded enough to think my actions affect the outcome of games – for example, I think if I yell at the TV loudly enough, the ref might change his mind on a stupid call.

As such, I can’t help but notice that the 7-game win streak the Canucks enjoyed over the holidays came when I couldn’t watch any of the games. I saw none of them, as I was deep in the heart of hockey-indifferent Florida. Stupid Americans. Anyway, the first game the Canucks play after my return? The first game I was able to watch? Last night’s 5-2 thrashing at the hands of the goddamn Minnesota Wild.

Coincidence? I think not. Now, if I was willing to take one for the team, I’d promise not to watch another game for the rest of the season. But since I finally caved in this year and bought the NHL Centre Ice package, I’m not going to do that. The rest of you will just have to resign yourselves to the Canucks going back to losing.

Unless, of course, anybody wants to pony up for me to spend the rest of the season in Florida.
